In late 2025, my wife and decided to move to Virginia. It was a simple plan for my part; Move to Virginia, explore the Appalachian Mountains on motorcycles, share my adventures on YouTube with my friends back home, win Romaniacs in 2027, buy some land, and start a ferret farm. Easy peasy.
Everything was going to plan for about 5 minutes. Then I fractured my back moving to Virginia which suddenly reminded me that I'm a 50+ year old man. Also, I've never actually been in a motorcycle race, and I'm allergic to ferrets. The plan needed work. Fortunately I now had time.
In my downtime, I looked for other activities to help pass the time. For decades, photography was a huge part of my life. You almost never saw me without a camera in my hand. Then about 10 years ago I lost the spark. I put down my camera one day and that was that. I dabbled a few times over the years, even buying a nice full frame Sony A7R V a few years back, but I never even left the house with it. Now though, I had a new motivation: boredom. Also, we have an entire new state to explore.
I didn't have any big plans for photography when I dusted off my camera, but after spending a little time with it and sharing a few photos with friends, I was suddenly transformed into John Wick, which is uncanny considering how often people get the two of us confused.
So here we are in late October, and I've had the good fortune of being able to explore lots of paved back roads and a few easy trails by motorcycle this year. It's as amazing as I had hoped.
For my friends back home, I apologize in advance, but you're going to need to look up some of the words in this next sentence. Southwest Virginia has no shortage of curves, hills, switchbacks, gravel roads, and trails to explore. No, I'm not having a stroke, those are real words. Look 'em up.
Unfortunately, I'm still not likely to make it to Romaniacs in 2027 (dang), as my recovery seems to be... problematic. But we now have a Jeep, which means I can carry even more camera gear with me. You can probably see where this is going.
Credit card debt! Exploring! Yep. We're still doing that, but the focus of the channel has changed. I'll still be riding bikes, but they won't be the primary focus of the channel. Instead, I'll now focus more on exploring the Appalachian Mountains, visiting small towns, traveling back country roads and trails, enjoying a landscape here and there, and of course, photography.
I guess I should also put a little effort into learning how to actually take decent photographs, but in the meantime, here are some landscapes to get things started. The road ahead will look a little different. Check back soon to see what's I'm working on.
